Rebecca Estelle's Story
Life
I was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and deemed to die at the age of eighteen going on nineteen. I went through radiation which saved my life. Now, a Second brain lesion has occured and I am about to battle for my life, AGAIN! I am now 34 yrs. Life has been difficult but it has its good points too. Never give up faith and hope.
I went to college in Missouri but graduated from Grapevine High School, GV, TX 76051. It was a lot of fun in computers despite having the brainstem tumor and my brain disease, hydrocephalus. I have a shunt for that and have had a total of 14 revisions in 9 years. I finally had a craniotomy to take out the first brainstem lesion. It took me a good 18 months to recover from Sept. 3rd,1997 to Oct.1998. Then, I had my last Shunt revision the following month. Whew! Remember, Faith, got to have Faith!
The Second lesion was just discovered on August 9th, 20004. It is actually on the skull in the parietal region but it is directly OVER the shunt area on the left hand side! THAT has me very worried! I have already started to drop some things in my right hand, and of course, I have the numbness and weakness on that side from the first craniotomy. They went into the Tectile Plate region to save me. I was near death, again! I am always ne...Expand for more
ar death, and can never die. I keep on living! Why is that? Faith, got to have Faith~!
I like to walk and walk my dog. I am a devout Christian. Since July 2002, I have lost 135 pounds. I think I am doing pretty good!~
School
My biggest crush was Jeffrey Schroeder, until I found out he was gay. The teacher that inspired me the most was Mrs. Anus. I am serious about the name here. She taught computers my senior year in 1988. No, I would not do it all over again.
Craziest and funniest memories are of me and Craig Crosby putting up "Rhthym" on the blackboard in Accapella choir in the Music hall. All those times I covered for you Craig! (grin) Music was my life back in High school and Middle School!
Becca
College
My best memory is staying up late in the computer lab, working and helping other classmates and then going back to my room, private I might add, and studying till midnight for an exam the next day and being "so tired" but loving it all!
Workplace
I worked for 4 years as a Computer Programmer for the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department before I was so sick I was literally on my deathbed and my Mom and sister came up from Texas to get me in Missouri and took me home. Mother does not know how close she came to losing me on many, many nights.
